Biography

Peter Costello made the switch to us from Boston United after the 2002-3 season; coming in switch with fellow Pilgrim Jamie Gould. The experienced midfielder was part of Boston’s Championship-winning season; also getting a slice of Football League action as the club overcame a points deduction to stay in the Nationwide Division Three too. Before that, he had played as far afield as Hong Kong.

An injury to Sam McMahon at the tail end of the 2002-3 season made it easier for Costello to force his way into the starting XI. On occasion, the midfielder was preferred to younger startees including Danny Carroll and Steve Watson as his experience shone through. His 2003-4 campaign was cut short by injury, however; the result of one of Lee Trundle’s many transgressions on his way to a second goal for Swansea City in a FA Cup tie against us at Vetch Field.
