Dwayne Plummer

Date of Birth: 15-05-1978

Place of Birth: Bristol

A skilful (if often frustrating) talent, midfielder Dwayne Plummer arrived in October 1998 with the hope that he’d become Boro’s next big star. With quick feet and a deft touch, he could be the torment of opposition defences across the Conference on his day. But were our expectations too high? Or did we just not make the best use of his skills? Either way, the time he spent with us was brief and saw him make just 32 appearances (23 starts).

After featuring in a Paul Gascoigne skills video as a young ‘un, Plummer turned pro at his first club: Bristol City. But he couldn’t make the breakthrough he wanted and so joined us in October 1998. At first, it was a loan deal (if Wikipedia is right, we can’t remember). But, less than a month later, it became a permanent deal. Injuries probably didn’t help his time with us, but he moved on in late 1999; Richard Hill moving him out on a free transfer.

Dwayne Plummer: After Boro’

After a short time at Chesham United, Plummer found a home at Bristol Rovers. Injuries again were a problem for the midfielder during his time at the Memorial Ground. That time would come to an unsavoury end in 2002, however; the lad sacked for ‘gross misconduct’ and having to start afresh at a new club. That club would be Harlow Town. Then Ebbsfleet. And then Aylesbury and Bath. In fact, it was a time when the clubs came thick and fast.

In all, Plummer turned out for around 20 clubs between leaving us in 2000 and finishing up (we presume) at Maldon Town in 2010. Only at four – Hendon, AFC Wimbledon, Thurrock and Braintree – did he seem to make a start, before moving onto pastures new.
