In 2000/01, Nathan Bunce served at the back for Boro' alongside Robin Trott, and on a few occasions, took on the captain's armband. When Paul Fairclough allowed the central defender to leave for Farnborough, few imagined that he would ever return to Broadhall Way.

However, two years down the line, Bunce was one of seven players who followed Graham Westley to Stevenage from the Hampshire club, and finished the season on a rich vein of form.

Bunce was firmly establised as a member of a two or three man back line alongside Jason Goodliffe, and the pair's partnership started the 2003/04 season as the bedrock of Boro's defence, but the defender's second stint with the club failed to extend into another full season and he departed.
