Pitcher joined Boro' for a one-month loan spell at the start of the 2003/4 season, primarily as cover during a midfield injury crisis, but further to bolster the already strong squad that Graham Westley had assembled.

Despite shelling out £55,000 to move Pitcher from Kingstonian, he only started five first team games for the Seagulls, and spent the majority of the last two seasons on loan to either Dagenham, Woking or Farnborough.

Pitcher was supposed to add the blend of tackling spirit mixed with creativity that was missing since the second knee injury to Sam McMahon over the close season of 2003, but the reality proved disappointing as Pitcher failed to live up to his strong reputation.
