Jamie was signed in the first close season of Graham Westley's tenure from Boston United along with Peter Costello, who lasted less than a season at Broadhall Way. Despite having been awarded the Pilgrims' Young Player of the Year award that season he was released.

Justin Gregory had been released and there was a severe absence of left-sided players at the club, the only one of note being his former Boston teammate Jamie Cook. However, his start was somewhat hampered by a training injury that delayed his debut until a substitute appearance away to Telford United some months after joining and went on to figure highly in the 2003/4 season.

Billed originally as a utility player with emphasis on midfield, Jamie was quickly drafted into the left back berth following injury to regular left back Lee Flynn and the necessity for Barry Laker to remain in the centre of defence following Jason Goodliffe's injury.

This allowed Jamie to enjoy quite a burst of match involvement, featuring 33 times in all in his first season. At the close of the season however, Graham Westley was quick to re-sign Justin Gregory who had been keeping himself busy with Crawley Town and winning the Southern Premier League while also collecting their Player of the Year award.

Soon Gould was frozen out with midfield chances even tougher to come by with George Boyd promoted to the first team and a host of Football League names brought into the middle. After a successful loan spell with Conference South strugglers Welling United Boro' fans feared he had found his realistic level, and it came as no surprise when he was put out of his misery and a deal was agreed to take him to Kettering Town.

A player who always seemed to be playing within his real abilities moved through Broadhall Way. Hard to dislike but hardly hero worshipped. May he sail in football for a good time to come with our best wishes.

Jamie Gould. Always believe in your soul.
