Manager Graham Westley moved to sign Kenyan international Taiwo Atieno in February 2011 following the forward's release from Luton Town, where he scored three times in 13 appearances. Having already signed Byron Harrison and Craig Reid to bolster Boro's attack, Atieno's signature came as a surprise heading into the second half of the 2010/1 season.

Atieno has a fair amount of experience that is not limited to English football. Prior to his arrival at Kenilworth Road, the player spent some time in the US and Puerto Rico with some level of success. Before his adventure Stateside, there were various loan spells at League and non-league clubs that followed the start of his career at Walsall. International experience with Kenya also appears on his CV.

However, his time at Boro' was ended at the conclusion of the regular 2010/1 season with just one appearance to his name. Despite the club making it to the playoffs, a contract extension was not forthcoming.
