Huyton-born midfielder Greg Tansey was among the raft of new arrivals to join Stevenage during summer 2012, as the club sought to consolidate its position at the top end of League One. As Boro' prepared to write a new chapter of its history, the signature of Tansey laid down a benchmark for the direction in which the club was looking to head.

The player spent one season in the Scottish Premier League with Inverness Caledonian Thistle before moving back down south to join the Hertfordshire side. And it was a fairly promising stay, with the 36 appearances made in Caley colours yielding four goals from midfield. Boro' recruited the man certainly hoping he wouldn't be shy of pulling the trigger.

Before he moved to Scotland, Tansey gained Football League experience while on the books of Stockport County. A recipient of the League Two Player of the Month award in December 2010, the midfielder made nearly 100 appearances (scoring 13) during his five years at the club - broken only by a brief stint with Altrincham on loan in 2008.

Tansey arrived at the Lamex Stadium following the departures of Joel Byrom and John Mousinho, players who had contributed much in Boro's ascent up from the Conference and through League One. The shoes he filled were big ones, but playing at the highest level of Scottish football gave him a springboard from which to take up the challenge.
