Jesse Joronen is a Finnish goalkeeper who was drafted in by manager Teddy Sheringham on a six-month loan deal in August 2015. It was a bit of a surprise to see Sheringham recruit another stopper so shortly after Chris Kettings had on a shorter arrangement.

It was a move that provided Sheringham with further security between the sticks; at the time, Chris Day was comfortably Boro's number one - but his advancing years meant the manager probably couldn't risk it too much. And the Finn arrived with hopes high for his future.

With a firm command of his area, Joronen is a formidable opponent in goal. He has already represented his country at international level and has first team experience from a number of loan deals - though not, it seems, a temporary stay at Cambridge United.

It is reported that Joronen returned to Fulham just one day after the Us signed him on a temporary basis because he was named as a substitute in his first game. It didn't harm his career, however, as he made his first team debut for Fulham in the Championship in 2014.

Apart from his brief time at Cambridge and his longer career at Craven Cottage, Joronen spent time on loan at Maidenhead United and Accrington Stanley in the UK - as well as FC Lahti in Finland.

He might have lost his first team place at Fulham by the time he came to Boro', but the west London club still had huge faith in his abilities. With a solid loan spell at the Lamex offering the potential for first team action, the arrangement had the potential to prove beneficial to both parties.
