"A real trier" that's how manager Darren Sarll described Harry Beautyman, the third Stevenage summer signing in 2017. A midfielder by trade, Sarll pointed towards his athleticism and enthusiasm as his stand-out attributes. Not only that, but the player arrived with a reputation for having an eye for goal; something for Boro' fans to warm to as Sarll reshaped his squad during the close season.

Born in Newham, Beautyman's career started out locally at Leyton Orient, in fact. After becoming a regular in the O's youth and reserve sides, injuries saw him added to the first team squad during the 2009-10 campaign. He was kept on that summer, before two loan spells the following season gave him his first taste of first team action; first at St Albans, then at Hastings United.

Alas, the midfielder was released by Orient in summer 2011 and he was left looking for a new club. Sutton United were that club, signing Beautyman first on a short-term deal and then later on an 18-month contract. After a two-year spell at the U's in which he contributed a healthy number of goals, he made the switch to Welling United.

Such was his (scoring) form in non-league football that Peterborough United showed an interest. The player signed for Posh on loan in November 2014, with the move made permanent in the following January transfer window. He featured a good few times at London Road, before moving on again after 18 months; this time to Northampton Town, from where he joined Boro'.

For whatever reason, though, Beautyman's opportunities in a Boro' shirt weren't as bountiful as many may have thought. His inability to displace comrades Jonathan Smith or Dale Gorman on a regular basis led to ever-more question marks over his future at Boro'. The emergence of Mark McKee in the middle didn't help his cause. It was little surprise, then, that the midfielder moved to Sutton United in January 2018 for an undisclosed fee.
